The creation of the Civic and Religious Education Center is based upon
the analysis of the former aspects of the church teachings about the
necessary and indispensable education of the catholic laics and all
good- willed men, to participate and share the responsibility in the
civil society and in the eclesial community, from their own vocation
and free choice according to their talent and capacity without loosing
their christian identity.
We have taken into account very carefully, the prophetic words by
the Pope Paul VI in the Apostolic Letter "Octogesima Adveniens¨.
It is stated:
¨Going to the political dimension also expresses a demand belonging
to man nowadays, a greater participation in responsibilies and decisions.
This genuine aspiration is shown mainly , as cultural level grows,as
the sense of freedom develops, and man realices how , in an uncertain
world, today´s decisions determine tomorrow´s life¨.
¨We´ve got to devise new forms of modern democracy not only
giving man information and the possibility to express his opinion, but
to commit himself to a common responsibility¨.
Thus the human groups are transformed , little by little , into communities
of participation and life¨.
Thus the pastoral priority of Pinar del Río diocese for the
year 92-93 was precisely, the creation of life and participation communities
through the creation of parish communities , small eclesial communities
and this pastoral project of civic and religious education.
Due to all we have said before, and trying to interpret ¨the signs
of times¨ and to answer to tomorrow´s challenges from this
moment on, the Pastoral Council reccommended to Mr. Diocesan Bishop
to create a Civic and Religious Education Center. The Council established
its general aims, sponsors, functioning, and addressees.
Mr. Bishop appoved this Pastoral Diocesan Project in July 1999 and started
on January 29th 1993 with the following regulations:
THE CIVIC AND RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CENTER IN PINAR DEL RIO.
This Center is created with the purpose that the catholic laics and
other good-willed persons become qualified and exercise the civic, ethical,
religious and cultural principles which allow them to be able to participate
and be responsible in society and in the church, according to their
own human and christian vocation.
